An independent Massachusetts 501(c)(3) nonprofit · Advancing real estate education & the built environment
About the Association

Our Mission

Organized exclusively for educational and charitable purposes — advancing real estate education, sustainable urban development, and the built environment.

Who We Are

Alumni in Service of the Built Environment

The MRE Alumni Association Inc. (MREAA) is an independent Massachusetts nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) organization founded by graduates of the Master in Real Estate (MRE) program and the Master in Design Studies (MDes) program with a concentration in Real Estate and the Built Environment (REBE).

Our primary purpose is charitable and educational: providing scholarships and grants directly to students enrolled in graduate real estate degree programs, facilitating structured mentorship between practitioners and students, and publishing research and programming that promote sustainable, ethical, and resilient urban development for the public benefit.

The professional community of our alumni body — networking, chapter dinners, peer forums — strengthens the donor, mentorship, and volunteer base that makes this mission possible.

Autonomy

Independent by Design

MREAA is a self-governing entity, financially and operationally independent of any university, academic institution, or external alumni organization. The Association owns its programming, brand, directory, and data — and collaborates with partner organizations only through equal, written co-hosting agreements that preserve its legal and financial autonomy.

Our Work

Programs & Initiatives

Student Scholarship Fund

Financial scholarships and grants awarded directly to students enrolled in the MRE and MDes (REBE) degree programs, funded by dues, pledges, and corporate sponsorships.

Mentorship Program

Structured, year-long pairings of established industry practitioners with current students — every officer also carries an affirmative duty to mentor a successor.

Public Educational Events

At least two general educational events each year — industry panels, site visits, and student mixers — open to the broader real estate community, students of any institution, and the public.

Research & Publications

Conducting, publishing, and disseminating research that promotes sustainable, ethical, and resilient urban development for the public benefit.

Governance

Two-Tier Governance

A structure designed for both permanence and democratic energy.

Board of Trustees

The fiduciary anchor: three to five long-term Trustees serving five-year renewable terms as the corporation's statutory directors and officers of record — safeguarding the bylaws, assets, and 501(c)(3) status.

National Operating Board

Seven officers elected by the voting membership to two-year terms through a merit-based, deliverable-driven election process — running events, programming, dues, and chapter operations nationwide.

Advisory Council

Distinguished senior alumni, executives, and institutional partners providing high-level strategy, introductions, and fundraising support — engaged through roundtables and flagship events.

Where We Gather

Each chapter is managed by an elected Chapter Lead who also sits on the National Operating Board, and hosts quarterly member dinners alongside the Association's public educational programming.
